Laura Wheat added this to 10 Stylists’ Tricks to Steal for the Living Room
Style your shelves In design circles, shelves are not merely a place to cram clutter and old paperbacks, but rather a primary spot for displaying attractive objects in an artful way. Choose a style with cupboards built into the base for holding messy bits and bobs, and use your shelves to show off a seasonally changing selection of your favourite things. A mixture of books, plants, metallic elements, monochrome pieces and bright touches works well – but remember that less is more.Get more ideas for creating the perfect ‘shelfie’
Lara Watson added this to Neat Living Room Tips to Steal from Tidy People
Employ a good shelf systemNot only can you put together beautiful, considered displays on shelves like these, but a few interesting curios will draw the eye up the wall (and away from any mess on the floor) far more than if you jam-pack them with all manner of messy, differently sized books. The cupboards underneath can hold less attractive bits and pieces, such as DVDs, paperwork and electricals. Think storage is boring? Discover how to turn it into a feature
